A very careful, tentative romance builds ever so slowly between the two, in spite of their wariness. Esther has refused medical devices in the past because they stress her out. She loves working with the deaf children and other deaf friends in her community because it is there she is always understood and accepted. The attraction between the two is undermined and the motives to help are misunderstood between the two when Gabe simply does not understand Esther's refusal to seek medical help for her deafness. I was badly but temporarily disabled as a child and was blessed to have had a six month romance with a lovely young lady who was blind since birth.
